Universitas Sains Al-Qur^an

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the KWL (Know Want to Know a Learned) strategy on students^ reading comprehension. This type of research is quasi experimental research with one group pretest posttest design. This research was conducted at MI Ma^arif NU Klesman. The instrument in this study used multiple choice questions. The results obtained indicate an increase in reading comprehension. The use of the KWL strategy is applied to intensive reading material or reading comprehension of the contents of the reading text where column K (Know) is what students already know after reading the contents of the reading text, column W (Want) what they want to know or what students have not understood in the content of the reading text, and column L (Learned) students can conclude the content of the reading text that has been read. The average value of reading comprehension of students before using the KWL strategy was 55.19 in the poor category, while after using the KWL strategy it was 76.54 in the Good category, it increased by 21, 35. Based on the calculation, it is found that the X2(count) value is 1.89 and X2(table) is 11.07 with an error rate of 5%. Because X2(count) < X2(table) (1.89 < 11.07), the experimental sample comes from a normally distributed population. Based on the results of the t test, it was obtained tcount = 7.915 and ttable = 2.060 with a level of 5%, because tcount was 7.915 > ttable 2.060, it could be concluded that there was an increase in the reading comprehension of students after using the KWL learning strategy.

Indonesian Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Widya Dharma Klaten, Central Java, Indonesia

Abstract

This research focuses on the morphological aspects and more specifically this study only examines the morphophonemic aspects so that the emphasis is only on: the morphophonemic process which includes: the phoneme change process, the phoneme addition process, and at the same time the phoneme loss process. For that matter, things beyond morphology are not examined. More specifically, it examines competing forms that are often used in daily conversation. If the language user generally considers it correct, of course, other language users agree with it. This is a special concern in this study. Logically, it is true for users of one language, of course also true for users of other languages. However, the facts state differently, it is evident that there are still many language users who use competing forms, which ironically both forms are claimed that they are the correct form with a variety of considerations and reasons that are pretty basic.

Abstract

COVID-19 outbreak that has shifted face-to-face (f2f) to forced remote learning challenged the CLIL Science teacher to thrive in a new teaching form. The f2f adaptation of the virtual meeting using video conferencing software has driven the teacher to have an effective and accessible synchronous learning environment, in addition to the asynchronous one. In CLIL setting, teaching subject material using English as a medium of instruction to young learners requires more effort to make them understand the content and target language at the same time. This research was a narrative inquiry participated by a CLIL Science teacher teaching the first-grader in a small town in Indonesia. By employing an in-depth interview, the data were collected and then analyzed by emotional geography theory. The findings showcased the f2f adaptations made by the teacher and the challenges she encountered during the new mode of delivery. This research implies that the experience of how the CLIL Science teacher taught the young learners using English would be a new insight for other teachers in dealing with real-time live lesson delivery during the COVID-19 outbreak.
