Abstract
This study aims to examine the use of electronic books (e-books) and its pedagogical implications in English language teaching and learning (ELTL) through systematic literature review. The 14 research-based studies on implementing the e-books in ELTL published during the era of industrial revolution 4.0 (2011-current) from a reliable database were analyzed to answer the research questions of this study. The findings include the types of e-book used in ELTL, the applications including the features available in the e-books, benefits and barriers of the implementation of the e-books based on the work used in this study. Conducting this literature review study provides thorough knowledge on the application of e-books in language teaching and learning benefitting future researchers to investigate further research on the application of e-books in ELTL or even to develop e-books to support ELTL.
