Populism and Social Media in Southeast Asia: Navigating Democratisation and Political Stabilityy to Submit This Sample Abstract Hestutomo Restu Kuncoro, Rosalia Dwi Fadma Tjahjanti, Mochammad Fauzul Haq
Universitas Pembangunan Nasional ^Veteran^ Yogyakarta
Abstract
This article examines the transformative impact of social media on populist
movements and democratisation processes in Southeast Asia, focusing on Indonesia,
the Philippines, and Thailand. Through a comparative analysis, the study identifies
common patterns in how populist leaders use social media to bypass traditional
media, foster anti-establishment sentiments, and rapidly mobilize grassroots support.
These strategies have enabled populist leaders to present themselves as authentic and
trustworthy, resonating with electorates disillusioned with traditional political
institutions. However, the effectiveness of these strategies is mediated by unique
regional features, such as the strength of politico-business networks, the legacy of past
authoritarian regimes, and socio-cultural contexts. The findings challenge traditional
models of democratisation that emphasize elite pacts and grassroots movements,
suggesting the need for more nuanced frameworks like Constructivist
Institutionalism, which account for the role of ideas and discourses in political
processes. The dual potential of social media to both facilitate democratic openings
and entrench populist regimes highlights the necessity for critical examination of its
role in political stability. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of
social media on political systems and the effectiveness of counterstrategies to manage
the spread of populist messages online.

Abstract
Gold mining in Cihonje has seen a rise in artisanal activities, utilizing various methods for ore processing. This study aims to compare the environmental impacts of two prevalent gold processing techniques-amalgamation and cyanide leaching-in the artisanal mining Cihonje areas. Amalgamation, which uses mercury to extract gold, and cyanide leaching, a more modern technique involving cyanide solutions, have differing environmental footprints that significantly affect local ecosystems and communities.
Data were collected through field surveys, water and soil sampling, and interviews with local miners. The study assessed several environmental indicators including soil contamination, water quality, and biodiversity. Results indicate that amalgamation, while historically prevalent and simpler, contributes to high levels of mercury contamination in soil and water, posing serious health risks to local communities and wildlife. Conversely, cyanide leaching, though more efficient in gold recovery, introduces cyanide compounds into the environment, which can be highly toxic if not managed properly. The findings highlight the urgent need for improved environmental management practices in artisanal mining operations. Recommendations include adopting cleaner technologies, implementing stricter environmental regulations, and enhancing community awareness and training. This study highlights the need to balance economic benefits with environmental stewardship in artisanal gold mining for sustainable development in Cihonje.

Abstract
Community development (CD) in the mining industry in Indonesia is newly introduced and enforced. It has a rigid and unique concept where the programs and the minimum expenses are strictly determined by the government. This paper unfolded the complexity of the CD concept in Indonesia. The discussion focused on the history, regulation, comparison to the other countries, and the next possible form of the CD in Indonesia. The very beginning concept of CD was included in the Law no. 4/2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining. The regulation evolved, then recently eight pillars were mandated in the CD programs: (1) education- (2) health- (3) income levels or employment- (4) economic independence- (5) social and cultural aspects- (6) enhancing local participation in the management of mining areas- (7) the formation of institutions supporting community development- and (8) infrastructure that supports community development. Moreover, the development must follow the regional blueprint. Finally, the current issue in the CD policy is to formulate the lower limit of the CD expenses for each mining company in the country. The CD policy in Indonesia, nevertheless, is still evolving. The CD is supposed to benefit the local community, but simultaneously keep the industry attractive to the investors. It is challenging not only for the mining companies due to its details, but also for the government due to its minimum fund that has not been decided to balance the local needs and the investors expectation.

Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Yogyakarta
Abstract
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global action plan agreed upon by world leaders, aimed at eradicating poverty, reducing inequality and protecting the environment. Global SDGs are then reduced to National SDGs as stated in Presidential Regulation Number 59 of 2017 concerning the Implementation of the Achievement of Sustainable National Development Goals. Then the SDGs are reduced to the lowest level, namely Village SDGs. Sambirejo Village, Prambanan District, Sleman Regency as one of the Villages that has very good natural resource and tourism potential while still having a very high poverty rate because the majority of the community works as farmers.
One of the goals of the Village SDGs is quality village education that will support lifelong learning opportunities for all people. This can be achieved through village education based on social inclusion. To realize this goal, it can be done through empowering village libraries. The purpose of establishing a village library is to provide services to village communities in accessing information more easily. In addition, it can provide services and activities provided according to the characteristics of the village community. Currently, Sambirejo village already has a village library. However, Sambirejo Village library faces several problems in capturing the SDGs opportunities, including: (1) human resources are not ready to face the consequences of the Village SDGs- (2) does not have a good library archive management system- (3) still lack of availability of literature collections. Based on these problems, the Community Service Team (PbM) provides solutions to solve these problems, namely (1) providing education about social inclusion-based libraries and Village SDGs- (2) providing training and assistance on archiving management- (3) mediator of library book collection procurement mechanisms.

Abstract
Abstract
This study aims to map hoaxes related to the 2024 Local Elections by collecting data on election hoaxes through the analysis of data spread on Twitter. Data collection took place from May 15 to July 12 and will resume from August 1 to September 15, 2024. These dates were chosen because the emergence of hoaxes is expected to be more intense as the local elections approach. However, due to the need to complete the research report, data collection could not be conducted in October, one month before the 2024 elections. The method used involves data mining and sentiment analysis using the NodeXL and Asigta applications. The results of the study show the pattern of hoax dissemination networks on Twitter. Network analysis reveals that several Twitter accounts with high degree centrality significantly influence the spread of hoaxes related to the 2024 local elections. Community clusters that form tend to collectively reinforce incorrect views. The majority sentiment of tweets related to the 2024 election hoaxes is predominantly negative, with a significant amount of false information being published to influence public opinion.

(a,b,c) Department of Accounting, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional ^Veteran^ Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between the reputation of public accounting firm and key audit matter disclosure. Key Audit Matters (KAM) are defined as ^Those matters that, in the auditor^s professional judgment, were of most significance in the audit of the financial statements of the current period. Key audit matters are selected from matters communicated with those charged with governance. International Audit and Assurance Standards Board issued International Standard on Auditing (ISA) ISA 701, Communicating Key Audit Matters in the Independent Auditor^s Report on January 2015. Indonesia adopted ISA 701 in 2021, effective 1 January 2022. As explained by reputational theory and deep pocket theory, this study proposes the hypothesis that the reputation of audit firm positively affect key audit matter disclosure. Using companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2022-2023, this study found that companies audited by audit firm of higher reputation report higher KAM disclosure than those of lower reputation of audit firm. The implication of this research is that audit firm of higher reputation bear litigation risk and reputational cost.
