Push-Pull Theory of Migration Impact on Students Decisions at East Java Province

Abstract

The purpose of research was to analyze push and pull factors of migration. These factors influenced decision among student groups. Respondents are Vocational High School (SMK) students in Ngawi Regency and Pacitan Regency, East Java Province. This research was descriptive quantitative. Data collection through surveys. The research results showed that the majority of students decide to migrate. Students prefer permanent migration than circular migration. The major push factor was an economic. Respondents were assumed that urban area have many opportunities and ways to generate income. In other side, the biggest push factors were the lack of opportunities for self-development, job opportunities, and access to capital. Indirectly, the result shows that development and agriculture in the origin area can^t reduce the rate of migration, specifically for youth in rural area.
