Abstract
Djaka Lodang magazine is one of the Javanese-language media that has existed since 1971, making it an important representation in the preservation of local culture in Yogyakarta. In the context of global and digital media development, the role of local print media becomes increasingly important but also vulnerable. This study aims to explore the strategic role of Djaka Lodang in maintaining the Javanese language and culture, and to uncover the challenges and adaptive strategies faced in the digital era. The method used is intrinsic case study with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that Djaka Lodang positions itself as an educational and cultural medium that relies on the strength of the Javanese language and community networks to maintain its existence. However, serious challenges are faced in editorial regeneration, digital technology usage, and media distribution amidst declining public interest in local-language printed reading materials.
