Abstract
This research focuses on the development of a game-based football learning model for the Basic Football Skills course in the Department of Sports Coaching Education at Universitas Negeri Medan. The primary issues identified involve limited student engagement during learning activities and the lack of an instructional model that integrates technical and tactical components effectively. Utilizing a Research and Development (R&D) methodology, the study progressed through several stages, including needs assessment, initial model design, expert validation, small-scale trials, model refinement, implementation, and evaluation.
The proposed model adopts the principles of active learning and game-based pedagogy, prioritizing authentic match-like scenarios. Results demonstrate that the model received positive validation from experts, was feasible for use by instructors, and proved effective in improving students fundamental technical abilities-such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Additionally, its implementation significantly enhanced students active participation, motivation, and tactical comprehension in football. The resulting implementation manual was deemed practical and supportive for effective instruction in higher education contexts. Overall, this study offers a valuable contribution to football pedagogy by introducing a contextual, skills-focused instructional framework.
