Abstract
One of the efforts to improve the quality of universities in order to achieve a World Class University (WCU) is by improving facilities in universities. The canteen, which is one of the important facilities in moving activity motorcycles, is also a means of activity for students, lecturers and university employees. The Auditorium Building of the State University of Medan has a room that is used as a university canteen with several types of activities, namely buying and selling/service activities. The purpose of this study is to find problems that occur in the canteen of the Auditorium of the State University of Medan in analyzing thermal and visual comfort in facilitating the activities of canteen users. Using a mixed method of a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, this process will trace the level of problem-solving that occurs with the application of the role of technology in creating a good, safe and comfortable space atmosphere. The reference standards used for Thermal Comfort include SNI-03-6572-2001 concerning Procedures for Planning Ventilation Systems and Air Conditioning in Buildings, while the reference standards that can be used for aspects of Visual Comfort include SNI-03-6575-2001 concerning Procedures for Designing Artificial Lighting Systems in Buildings. Meanwhile, the visual comfort in the Auditorium Canteen shows related to the intensity of the light around it. This lighting aspect is in the form of natural and artificial lighting, both of which affect the creation of visual comfort in the auditorium canteen. Outputs from the results of the study Analysis of canteen comfort in producing alternative design and spatial arrangement in the canteen room as well as directions and suggestions for the application of the role of technology.
