Abstract
This study explores student perspectives on learning materials used in the Receptive Oral Language Skills (ROLS) course, focusing on both the evaluation of previously used resources and urgent need to develop learning materials enriched with local wisdom and character values. Nowadays, digital learning materials are increasingly adopted, yet they often lack integration of local cultural values and character education, which are the elements that are essential for fostering meaningful, context-driven learning. To address this gap, the study examines how students perceive previously used materials and their expectations for future resources. A qualitative approach was employed, using an open-ended questionnaire completed by fourth-semester students in English Education program. Responses were analyzed to identify patterns in student experiences, preferences, and expectations. The findings show that students value digital materials such as podcasts and videos, but seek content that includes local wisdom themes (folktales, regional traditions, local history) and moral values (curiosity, honesty, cooperation, and tolerance). They also suggested specific features that would enhance accessibility and engagement. This study contributes to the fields of language education and instructional design by offering learner-informed insights for developing future materials that not only support listening comprehension but also reflect learners^ cultural identities and promote character education.
