Abstract

High population growth results in an increasing need for housing while available land is very limited. Uncontrolled growth can create a slum area characterized by a decline in the quality of livable houses and environmental quality. Medan City, as a developing city, is experiencing problems with slum settlements. One of the slum settlements in Medan City is in Belawan Bahari Village, Medan Belawan District. The existence of slum areas in Belawan Bahari Village is characterized by the quality of houses that are not habitable for its residents. Based on the above problems, it is necessary to conduct an analysis to see the suitability of houses for their residents based on the criteria for livable houses in terms of construction and building structure, availability of space, air circulation and light, health facilities, accessibility, and environmental security conditions. The goal to be achieved is to determine the quality of livable houses and the quality of the slum environment which will then produce recommendations for livable house designs. The stages carried out are identifying and analyzing slum settlements guided by the criteria for livable houses based on primary and secondary data. The results of the identification and analysis are described using a qualitative descriptive approach through a weighting and scoring process, the results of which are divided into good and bad classifications, which are then translated into spatial form.
