Abstract

This research is motivated by the significant impact of flood disasters, both in material and non-material losses, as well as the difficulty in prioritizing flood management in Medan City. The drainage system no longer functions optimally, causing recurring annual floods. The objective of this study is to implement a drainage system for flood disaster risk mitigation in Medan. This research includes mapping flood vulnerability and susceptibility indices through drainage system design, and developing guidelines for drainage system design. The methodology involves collecting both primary and secondary data. A flood risk index map is compiled based on vulnerability, susceptibility, and capacity indices with the support of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, BMKG rainfall data, and land use data. Periodic flood discharge is calculated using the Rational Method, with a research and development (R&D) approach.
