IMPROVEMENT OF INDONESIA-MALAYSIA RELATIONS THROUGH A WORKSHOP ON THE HISTORY OF INDONESIANISM FOR STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITI SAINS MALAYSIA Nur Aeni Marta
Universitas Negeri Jakarta
Abstract
The partner in this program is the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The target of the activity is USM students. The problem currently faced by partners is a lack of knowledge about Indonesian history, even though Indonesia and Malaysia are countries in the same Southeast Asian region and have similarities in culture, religion, ethnicity, or race. However, relations between Indonesia and Malaysia have not always been harmonious, for example, the 1963 destruction of Malaysia, the Simpadan and Ligitan cases, the border case on Natuna Island, and so on. For this reason, it is necessary to introduce and study Indonesian history in order to form awareness, empathy, and sympathy for Indonesian culture among the young generation of the nation^s successors in Malaysia. They are the future successors of the nation and will continue to live peacefully together in one region of Southeast Asia. The activities will be carried out in the form of workshops with two methods: lectures and photo demonstrations of national figures, socialization, and FGD (focus group discussion). The activity will be held in two days. This activity has the following benefits: (1) it is hoped that USM students will have a positive historical understanding of Indonesia (2) good cooperation will be formed in the fields of education, culture, economics, social, and politics- (3) establishing relationships based on mutual respect between nations as part of the Southeast Asian regional community. The target of the workshop activities is to produce output in the form of (1) articles published in international journals, newspapers, and posters.
