Abstract
Pepper or Piper nigrum L, is one spice plant widely found in Indonesia. Pepper is a mainstay export commodity in Indonesia. However, pepper production is uncertain, sometimes up and sometimes down, which is influenced by several factors- one of the causes is pests and diseases. For some farmers, identifying pests and plant diseases is difficult. Therefore, it is necessary to have an expert system application for detecting pepper plant pests and diseases. The Dempster Shafer method is expected to provide information about pests and diseases in pepper plants. The Dempster Shafer method is applied to determine and define the confidence level and reasonable function to evaluate a possibility. The data on the types of diseases used in this study amounted to 9, with 46 symptoms. Based on the study^s results using 60 data, this expert system produced an accuracy value of 96%.
