Utilization of Amigurumi to Spark English Language Competence in Classroom Discourse

Abstract

The utilization of amigurumi is expected to spark students of early childhood to have English language competence. The classroom discourse plays a pivotal role in sparking interaction through speaking between teachers and students. The problem was found that the school of TK Baitul Makmur did not optimize English-speaking learning. With basic knowledge of communicative competence, students of early childhood are expected to be able to function their effectiveness of communication within society by amigurumi as a teaching medium for speaking skills narratively. Amigurumi was made through three phases. The prototype of amigurumi was made since This study is aimed at evaluating thoroughly how amigurumi medium of animal figures affects English language competence among students of early childhood. Students recognize vocabulary through animals^ names, parts of animals^ bodies, and habitats of animals. The method used 4D Research and Development (R&D) in classroom action research (CAR) with two cyles to evaluate 15 students at TK Baitul Makmur Jepara to perform their ideas about animals using props amigurumi involves planning, action, observation, and reflection. The result of this study reflected an attractive and interactive medium of amigurumi has been good developed to aid teachers to encourage students in speaking narratively.
