Abstract
Modern Balinese craft product designs in the current digital era, visually still display the cultural content of local Balinese traditions, even though some have escaped from the content of tradition. This study aims to discuss the design of modern Balinese handicraft products which visually still retains the nuances of Balinese traditional culture. This is a qualitative research, data collection has been carried out by on-line and off-line observations and discussions on applying hermeneutic theory. The research subjects are various modern Balinese craft product designs from various materials that display Balinese traditional culture. The results of the study show that various modern Balinese craft product designs currently consist of wood, woven bamboo, ceramics, textiles, rocks, the visuals still display traditional Balinese culture. There ware visual cultural traditions displayed in total on the surface of the product, some ware displayed only a small part. Besides that, there ware also modern Balinese craft product designs, which break away from the cultural content of Balinese traditions. The application of these traditional cultures plays a role in achieving the beauty and identity of Bali. The design of modern Balinese handicraft products, with visual tradition or not, is an effort by craftsmen to meet the tastes of existing consumers.
