Abstract
Abstract. The distribution pattern of settlements is the relationship between human habitation that follows the topographical patterns of a region. The distribution pattern of settlements in Kalimantan is closely related to the geographical conditions of the Kalimantan region, which are concentrated along riverbanks. The role of remote sensing in the study of settlement distribution is particularly important, primarily for obtaining spatial data on the presence of settlements and the conditions of the area at that time. Settlements that follow river networks can be analyzed using one of the methods, namely the nearest neighbor approach, often referred to as Average Nearest Neighbor (ANN). This research aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of settlement patterns along riverbanks and identify potential relationships between these settlement patterns and flood inundation. With a focus on remote sensing, spatial data is used to provide a holistic understanding of settlement dynamics and flood risk. Through this approach, the research results are expected to contribute significantly to the development of disaster mitigation policies, sustainable urban planning, and the construction of infrastructure adaptive to flood threats. Thus, a profound understanding of the relationship between riverbank settlement patterns and flood inundation can serve as a foundation for efforts to protect and recover impacted communities. The settlement patterns in parts of Martapura Subdistrict can reveal clustering, and this clustering pattern may contribute to various environmental issues, especially riverbank flooding due to human settlements built too close to the river or not following the government^s building regulations.
