Abstract

The main problem felt by mothers giving birth is pain. If the pain is not treated, it will increase the intensity of the pain, increase anxiety and worsen contractions of the uterine muscles resulting in prolonged labor which can cause harm to the mother and fetus. Acupressure is a non-pharmacological technique that can overcome labor pain but needs to be studied further. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of acupressure on pain intensity. The design of this research is a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample in the study was determined using two means so that 34 mothers were required to give birth, divided into two groups, namely 17 people as the intervention group and 17 people as the control group. Acupressure was performed at the celiao (BL 32) and saninjao (SP 6) points for 30 minutes. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale. The results showed that there was a difference in pain intensity before and after acupressure was carried out in the two groups (p < 0.001). The conclusion of this study is that acupressure at the celiao (BL 32) and saninjiao (SP 6) points reduces pain intensity
