Mathematics Learning Media with a Sports Context: Effects on Mathematical Connection Ability

Abstract

The low ability to make mathematical connections, the lack of optimal im-plementation of the independent curriculum, and the limited use of mathe-matics learning media are the background for this research. The changes that occurred as a result of the independent climate policy influenced learning ac-tivities in schools, especially mathematics learning. In this case, one of the supporting aspects that is very necessary in the learning process is learning media. The use of mathematics learning media is useful to help develop stu-dents^ mathematical abilities in the learning process. Students whose learning is used to using context in everyday life can solve mathematical connection problems. This research will use sports as a context for mathematics learning. The aim of this research is to determine the potential effect of using learning media in a sports context on mathematical connection abilities. The method in this research uses a mix method involving one class VII in a junior high school in Karawang Regency. The research instruments are a mathematical connection ability test, a questionnaire to determine students^ responses to the use of learning media with a sports context on integer material and an observation sheet to observe students in participating in the learning process. The results of the research show that students are enthusiastic about learning mathematics because of the use of learning media that has a sports context that attracts their attention and increases students^ mathematical connection abilities in the medium category.
