Abstract
The Segara Anakan Mangrove is one of the largest mangrove forests on the island of Java, providing numerous ecological and economic benefits. The utilization of the mangrove forest has led to increased human activities, resulting in degradation, continuous changes in land, and a reduction in overall area, ultimately affecting the health of the mangrove forest. The objectives of this research are (1) to map changes in the distribution of the mangrove forest in Segara Anakan, Cilacap Regency, in 2018 and 2023, and (2) to analyze the extent of the distribution of mangrove forest health in Segara Anakan, Cilacap Regency, in 2018 and its changes in 2023. The study utilizes Sentinel 2A satellite imagery and employs the Support Vector Machine classification method to identify mangrove distribution. The Mangrove Health Index is used, incorporating four vegetation indices: NBR (Normalized Burn Ratio), GCI (Green Chlorophyll Index), SIPI (Structure Insensitive Pigment Index), and ARVI (Atmospherically Resistant Vegetation Index) to assess health conditions. The research results indicate a decrease in mangrove forest area from 7,681.59 hectares in 2018 to 6,869.53 hectares in 2023, spread across various sub-districts. The largest mangrove area is in the Kampung Laut sub-district. The health condition of the mangrove forest in both 2018 and 2023 is predominantly moderate (33.33% < MHI < 66.67%), covering 6,765.53 hectares in 2018 and 5,058.36 hectares in 2023, mainly in the Kampung Laut sub-district and partly in Cilacap Tengah and Cilacap Selatan sub-districts. Based on the research findings, the health assessment of the mangrove forest in Segara Anakan can be used for evaluation and improvement in future mangrove conservation efforts. This ensures the sustained health of the mangrove forest, contributing to the enhancement of fisheries commodities and the economic sector for the well-being of the community.
