very interesting question from Mr. priest of the mind. S. Interms of media, the
shape of the woven bamboo in the form of a rectangular rhombus is similar to the
diamond during the celebration of Eid al-Fitr with the main ingredients being rice
and coconut leaves. philosophy of ketupat itself according to (Samsul Nizar 2022,
Professor & Head of STAIN Bengkalis). Ketupat for Javanese people has a strong
philosophy. The shape of the ketupat symbolizes the embodiment of Qibla Papat
Limo Pancer. That is, the side of the diamond symbolizes the balance of nature in
the four cardinal directions, namely east, south, west and north. Even though it
has four directions, there is only one Qibla or center (baitullah). This means that
wherever people go, they must not forget the pacer (direction) of the Qibla,
namely the obligation to pray and serve Allah. meanwhile According to Prof. Dr
Mattulada, an anthropologist from Hasanuddin University. the philosophy of
^sulapa eppa wala suji^ in the form of a rhombus. At the wedding ceremony of
the Bugis community, it is interpreted as the protector of the daughter, the
rectangular rhombus concept is placed horizontally with the middle world. This
view sees the world as a perfection. The perfection referred to is the four cardinal
directions, namely south, west, north and east, the mythological view of the
Bugis people who view this universe as Sulapa Eppa^ Walasuji (a rhombus
quadrilateral). symbolizes a balance that weighs neither to the left nor to the
right. This means that in utilizing the natural wealth that is given it must be
harmonious and balanced. Respect for nature must be based on reason (ratio)
and not on lustful desires. So in terms of the shape of this diamond has a
religious value which has an attitude to live in balance by utilizing the wealth of
the universe shown by the four cardinal directions without forgetting the creator
of the universe. Please correct and suggest if there are errors. thanks.

thanks for the response and nice question from Ms. Ulfah Nafiah, in the activity
^making miniature walasuji gates^ which had been designed together with craftsmen
and elders. the focus of the research is to determine social values &#8203-&#8203-that reflect
character education for the young Bugis generation through the processing of
walasuji bamboo techniques. Meanwhile, the design for making miniature walasuji is
designed for teenagers and adults, bearing in mind that in its manufacture it uses
sharp tools and objects, so work safety aspects need to be considered and of course
must be accompanied by craftsmen and elders, so that the younger generation
among teenagers and adults understand the values character without forgetting the
safety aspect

Dear, Presenter. Such an interesting topic. I am also from Sulawesi and I used to see people near my aunt house in an area in South Sulawesi that use this type of traditional customs but I have little bit confusion of how actually it is spelled. Which one is the correct spelling? Walasuji or Walasoji?

interesting question by Ms. Hardianti. for the actual spelling, it varies in every region
in South Sulawesi. For example, in Pinrang Regency, they sometimes call it balasji,
walasoji and walasuji. according to one of the elders who was interviewed who said
that although the name is different but has a symbolic meaning and the use of the
same artifact function, but because in terms of understanding the language has its
own characteristics in one area. that is why the spelling name walasuji has
variations, depending on each region in south sulawesi.
