Abstract
Gong Kebyar is a Balinese traditional five-tone pelog tuning music which gives birth to musical kebyar nuances expressions. Developing with a new concept, it feels something that was born according to the dynamics of the times. The flexible principle underlies Gong Kebyar to develop without challenge, and then it can be enthusiastically accepted by the people of the Archipelago, even the world community.
The presence of Gong Kebyar in the midst of Balinese society goes hand in hand with the dynamics of Balinese culture. The characteristics of Balinese culture with its synergy of religion, aesthetics and solidarity include the gamelan Gong Kebyar in various expressions and community activities.
As a text, Gong Kebyar has made a positive contribution to the development of Balinese performing arts. Contextually, Gong Kebyar has contributed to strengthening the socio-cultural of the Balinese people and has the ability to guard Balinese culture.
This paper aims to introduce Gong Kebyar to the world and develop it in the global competition arena. Is designed using interpretative qualitative methods and its discussion is adapted to the paradigm of cultural studies. Its analysis emphasizes the nature of reality that is built socio-culturally and is full of values.
