SANGKU AS INDONESIAN CULTURAL OBJECT

Abstract

Sangku as craft art object used in various regions in Indonesia according to certain regional beliefs and cultures. In Bali, the community has used sangku for a long time. The material used as a sangku undergoes renewal according to current conditions. The purpose this paper to explain the form, material, and function the sangku used various regions in Indonesia. This research is a sample research with a qualitative descriptive approach, data collection was carried out using online and offline documentation techniques. The results showed in Indonesia, sangku were found the form of a cylindrical base, some of which were made of clay, metal or rock. Sangku that apply regional cultural ornaments and some are plain, and their functions also vary, for example Bali as a place for holy water during Hindu ceremonies, while in Kalimantan the sangku used as a vessel for the Basarah ceremony called Sangku Tambak Raja by the Kaharingan people of the indigenous Dayak tribe Borneo. The research finding is that sangku in Indonesia is used as a vessel associated with the implementation of religious ceremonies. The implication this research that researchers can inform the existence of sangku in Indonesia, the shape, materials, and functions vary.
