Middlemen (Tengkulak) and The Ijon System in Salt Production at Madura

Abstract

ABSTRACT
Madura is one of the largest salt production islands in Indonesia, so Madura is called the salt island. One of the salt production villages on the island of Madura is Karanganyar in Sumenep Regency. Limited capital is a primary problem for salt farmers while salt production, so that farmers are trapped in the ^ijon^ system in buying and selling salt. The purpose of this research is to describe, explain, and answer in more detail that how the problems of capital in production in Sumenep. This research using a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the results of the study, it was shown that capital credit from middlemen with a ^ijon^ system really helped farmers in resolving the limited capital for the salt production process, even though the impact of the ^ijon^ system made farmers was loss
