Abstract
Informality features conventionally are proscribed from academic writing pedagogy. However, previous studies have identified variations in academic writing to include informality features. This present study investigated the informality features used by professional authors in the field of Computer Science. Corpus for this present research is 40 research article abstracts from Computer Science journals published within 3 years of study. AntConc 3.5.8 (2019) is used as item generation tool to show the wordlist, collocations, and concordance of informality features. Results of this present study show the recurring use of informality features, including the use of first-person pronouns I and we. Other informality features, such as listing expressions so, so on, and so forth. as well as sentence initial conjunctions are also identified to be present in the data. It could be concluded that such variations could improve the knowledge of academic writing from genre-perspective notion. Practical application for language classrooms as well as wider implications for language curriculum and further studies are also discussed in the paper.
