Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify product failures (defects) in the painting process, and find effective solutions to overcome these defects. This research focuses on defects in the body filter painting process. This research was conducted at PT. X since July 2019-July 2019. Data analysis methods used are Pareto diagrams and cause-and-effect diagrams. After doing research, identifying defect problems that arise and the data obtained are then processed using Pareto diagrams. Then it was found that the highest defect in the painting process on the spin-on body filter was melted paint, which was 33.2% and the dominant factor affecting the appearance of melted paint was the standard painring work process with a value of 11%, so the work standard of this painting process became become the focus of problems that must be corrected. From the previous process using a spray gun, it was changed to a spray disc. From the results of the improvement of the work process, the number of defects decreased by 518 or 46.54% from 1113 total defects before repairs and increased product quality.
