Abstract
This study aims to understand the indicators of effective leadership for conflict resolution in a multicultural society. This study has been done through a series of research from 2017 to 2020. Using mixed-method technique, this longitudinal research was first done qualitatively, and was then followed by a series of quantitative surveys. The initial research illustrates that there are two main dimensions of effective leadership for conflict resolution in a multicultural society in Indonesia, which are personal attributes and behavioural competencies. Personal attributes consist of cognitive abilities, innate traits, and values, while the behavioural dimensions consist of personal and interpersonal competencies. The second and third studies were conducted to test both dimensions separately through an online platform consisting of 526 respondents from all over Indonesia. The results of this study showed that the dominant facets from personal attributes are sincerity (value facet) and firmness (traits facet), while in the behavioural competencies dimension, the dominant facets are creativity and the desire to protect society. All the statistical indices showed that the model was fit, with a Goodness of Fit index (GOF) at 0.469, which means it fits for big-sized effect.
