Language Style in Humor Discourse on Social Media

Abstract

This study aims to identify language styles in humor discourse on social media Facebook. The main approach of this research is descriptive qualitative. The data are in the form of language styles in humor discourse on social media Facebook. The data source is humor discourse found on social media Facebook. The research data were collected using documentation and observation methods, followed by note taking techniques. The data were analyzed using translational identity method and marker reading method. The results of this study indicate that the language styles used in the discourse of humor on social media include: parallelism, metaphor, climax, prolepsis, antithesis, rhetoric, ellipsis, synekdoke, fable, allegory inversion, and simile. The use of various language styles in the humor discourse can increase the readers^ sense of humor. In addition, the use of various language styles in humor discourse is a strategy to convince readers about messages conveyed through humor on Facebook social media.
