Abstract
Character education nowadays becomes part of essential issue. The integration of character education in English language teaching is one of the efforts of creating conducive environments for learners to gain English whilst accustomed to the character values which mostly can be apparent from the contents of Islamic materials. Obviously, in fact that mostly Indonesian people or English learners are Muslim. They need teaching materials accustomed to their living habits as Muslim. These learning atmospheres will help the students easier to understand the content for better achievement of English proficiency. For those reasons, this research aims to explore the students^ understandings toward the integrated character value in Islamic teaching materials and how are the students^ academic achievements. Using descriptive qualitative approach combine with quassy-experimental method, this research found that the students gain some positive impacts due to the use of Islamic materials as teaching material in English language teaching. The students^ understandings on character values integrated are mostly deals with five characters: religiosity, honesty, curiosity, friendliness and responsibility. The students not only understood but they could also apply the character values directly in the real life. Moreover, there is an improvement on the students^ achievements between pretest and posttest in experimental groups after treatment. It means that Islamic materials are able to give significantly greater contribution to the students^ achievements.
