Abstract

The adoption of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) technologies has the potential to revolutionize the Malaysian healthcare industry by enhancing efficiency, improving patient outcomes, and fostering innovation. This study aims to explore the current practices of healthcare providers in adopting IR 4.0 technologies and to identify the barriers and challenges hindering their implementation. Using a quantitative survey approach, the research examines the utilization of technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics within the healthcare sector.

The collected data were analyzed using statistical methods to identify adoption trends, levels of implementation, and key obstacles. The findings highlight several major barriers, including high implementation costs, insufficient training and capacity building, lack of top management support, data integration and security issues, technological complexity, and fear of unemployment. Despite recognizing the significant benefits of IR 4.0 technologies, adoption among Malaysian healthcare providers remains limited due to these barriers.

This study provides valuable insights for policymakers, healthcare managers, and technology providers on how to overcome these challenges and successfully integrate digital innovations into the healthcare system. Addressing these barriers is crucial to ensuring that the Malaysian healthcare sector can fully leverage IR 4.0 technologies to deliver improved and sustainable healthcare services.
