DIGITAL LITERACY OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (Case Study in West Java Province)

Abstract

The digital transformation creates several opportunities for society, including those for vulnerable and limited individuals with disabilities. The digital divide can be seen in a few contexts, including device access and ownership, internet adoption, internet use, and knowledge acquisition. One of the benefits of digital literacy is the participation of people with disabilities and their opportunity to participate in the digital age. This study aims to determine the level of digital literacy of people with disabilities and sociodemographic relationships, the use of digital devices, and the internet to digital literacy.This research employed quantitative research methods, the population of this study is people with disabilities in West Java Province with a physical and sensory disability analysis unit (blind, deaf/mute). The Slovin approach was used to choose representative samples of respondents. Proportional random sampling was used as the sampling method. The questionnaire from the Global Framework of Reference on Digital Literacy
Skills from UNESCO was utilized as the instrument in the data collection. Four
categories of digital literacy levels-very low, low, intermediate, and high-are used to classify the findings of research on the level of computer literacy among individuals with disabilities. The findings revealed that the majority of those with disabilities often had very low levels of digital literacy. The communication and collaboration skills area, the information and data skills area, and the security skills area all have higher percentages than other skill areas at high literacy levels. The findings also revealed a significant correlation between age, type of disability, education level, type of employment, use of computers, smartphones, tablets, and ICT devices, as well as internet connectivity, with regard to digital literacy and areas of digital literacy.
