Abstract

Every artistic activity within society develops in a social environment and atmosphere- none evolves in a social vacuum. Therefore, art education-particularly in the visual arts-must be strengthened with knowledge from the social sciences. The existence of visual art within society relates to various aspects of social science, which can be comprehensively understood through the lens of the sociology of art. This study aims to formulate strategic policies to reinforce the Sociology of Art course in the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Negeri Medan. It further seeks to develop learning tools aligned with the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum and the New Paradigm of Higher Education. The research employed a development research method elaborated through the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, as well as validation and evaluation. The findings of this study consist of strategic policies for strengthening the Sociology of Art course, grounded in the OBE Curriculum and the transformational paradigm of higher education. This strengthening is achieved through the development of learning tools, including study materials, teaching materials, and learning resources, all compiled within a Semester Learning Plan (RPS).
