Abstract

Social media is a collection of applications that allow users to conduct social interactions online. A person through social media can share photos and videos, share news, and create short stories. With this, the dissemination of news today is very easy to do by anyone who owns or controls a communication device in the form of a gadget. In the dissemination of the news, there may be conversations that are not polite. The form of language that is not polite in social media can interfere with communication, both the process and the content of the message.
Kampung Sawah as one of the Betawi communities has its own uniqueness, namely there are three places of worship close together, and the Betawi people in Kampung Sawah are various Muslims, Christians, and Catholics who still have family relationships that have been established since before Indonesia^s independence. Harmony is believed to be formed and remains lasting because of the same customs, the same culture, the same language, even though religions are different.
In the context of communicating on social media, community members, teachers, students, and parents of elementary school students in Kampung Sawah Jatimurni Village are required to be able to write messages as news on social media in a polite manner. The training, which was accompanied by a poster, emphasised tips for writing polite messages, especially those related to harmony and tolerance as the characteristics of Kampung Sawah since long ago. This poster is very important to improve writing literacy so that community members, teachers, students, and parents of elementary school students in Kampung Sawah Jatimurni can recognise polite and impolite forms of language, and change impolite messages into polite ones. In addition, this poster is also expected to foster a wise attitude in responding to impolite words and provide an example of writing polite messages on social media. Through this activity, the community of Kampung Sawah Jatimurni has been able to write politely on social media, both using straight talk strategies, positive and negative politeness, and pseudo talk strategies. The understanding of politeness has made the community avoid using curses (such as anj*r, bangs*t), swearing, and other forms that degrade the honour of others.
