Abstract

Karang Panganten is an integral part of the Citatah Karst Area which is famous for its geological uniqueness and richness. This area reflects traces of complex geological dynamics, especially those related to fault activity and other geological structures. In the Miocene epoch, around 25 million years ago, the Karang Penganten area was a shallow marine environment. Subsequent orogenetic activities lifted these limestone rocks to the surface, forming a unique karstic landscape and characterising the Panganten Coral we know today. Field observations show that the Karang Panganten area is strongly influenced by fault activity, such as tensile braces, fault breccias, and fault mirrors (slickensides). One of the important findings in this observation is the slickenside, which is a smooth surface formed by friction between two rock blocks moving relative to each other. These fault mirrors provide clues to the direction of relative motion between the two blocks and are important indicators of tectonic activity in the region. This makes the Karang Panganten area an object of educational facilities that showcase the geological uniqueness of the West Bandung Regency area.
