Local Wisdom of Geopark Maros Pangkep Community as an Environmental Conservation Effort: A Case Study of the Community in the Bantimurung Site Area

Abstract

Local wisdom plays an important role in the stability of social and cultural life, as well as serving as a form of environmental conservation efforts at the site level. The research aims to explore the local wisdom of communities in the Maros Pangkep Geopark area, with a special focus on the Bantimurung Site. The research method uses case studies with qualitative approaches, field observations, in-depth interviews and focused group discussions. The results of the research show that the Site Bantimurung community applies various traditional practices that support environmental conservation efforts. Such as customs-based natural resource management, the implementation of rituals or traditions to strengthen the harmonization of human-natural relations and the application of certain social or customs prohibitions. This research recommends the need to support and integrate local wisdom into formal conservation statistics as one form of public education in the field of sustainable and comprehensive environmental conservation.
