Abstract

This study aims to develop a simple Speech-to-Text (STT) application using App Inventor to improve the pronunciation skills of vocational students, particularly those in engineering programs. As proficiency in foreign languages, such as English, is increasingly important in professional settings, accurate pronunciation is a critical skill often overlooked in traditional language instruction. The STT application provides a flexible and user-friendly platform that enables students to practice their pronunciation autonomously by receiving instant feedback on their speech. This research followed a design and development methodology, beginning with the identification of students^ needs through questionnaires and tests. The application was tested on 30 engineering students over four weeks, during which their pronunciation improved significantly, as indicated by pre-test and post-test results. The findings suggest that STT applications are effective tools for enhancing pronunciation, increasing student engagement, and fostering self-directed learning. The study concludes that integrating such technology in language learning offers potential solutions to challenges in professional communication for vocational students.
