Abstract

Total suspended solids (TSS) are an important biogeochemical parameter for water quality monitoring. Their distribution and deposition have a great impact on marine ecological environments. TSS can be used as one of the parameters to determine the potential fishing ground habitat. TSS concentrations that are elevated can hinder the growth of producer organisms. High levels of suspended solids, especially fine ones, are widely considered harmful to fish, and particles are known to damage gill structures and increase stress levels in fish. Therefore, the temporal and spatial change of suspended sediment concentration is an important issue in coastal and seawater research. This study aim to analyze and map the spatio-temporal distribution of TSS in coastal water of Banyuasin from medium resolution imagery (Landsat 8 OLI). The images used consist of images recorded on September 19, 2019, December 30, 2019, April 20, 2020, and July 20, 2020. The results showed that the distribution of TSS was spatio-temporally different in the study area. TSS in transitional season II is 132.76 mg/l -396.33 mg/l, west season ranges from 67.732 mg/l - 375.64 mg/l, transitional season I 33.41 mg/l - 235.16 mg/l, and in east season ranges from 97.73 mg/l - 297. mg/l.
