THE EFFECT OF TELANG FLOWER EXTRACT ON THE HEPAR CATALYST ENZYME OF MICE EXPOSED TO CIGARETTE SMOKE Teaching Staff at the Semarang Pharmacy Foundation College of Pharmacy, Semarang, Indonesia Abstract Introduction : Cigarettes contain more than 4000 chemicals and around 200 of them are harmful to health. Some components of cigarette smoke are gases, such as carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen cyanide (HCN), and nitrogen oxide (NOx) which have the potential to cause free radicals. Several other components of cigarette smoke are solid particles, such as nicotine, phenol, tar and cadmium. Continuous exposure to cigarettes results in decreased levels of the body^s antioxidants and causes oxidative stress. Butterfly/Telang flower extract has antioxidant properties. With the presence of these antioxidants, it can reduce the number of free radicals formed from the lipid peroxidation process. The catalase enzyme, which is one of the antioxidant enzymes, is used to determine antioxidant levels in mice exposed to cigarette smoke Keywords: cigarette smoke- telang flowers- catalase enzyme Topic: Medicine & Health Sciences |
