Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is still a major nutritional problem for children under two years of age. The consequences of stunting are increased morbidity and mortality, decreased learning capacity, increased risk of infection and non-communicable diseases in adulthood, decreased productivity and economic capacity. One of the reasons for the high stunting rate is influenced by family behavioral factors regarding child rearing patterns. Purpose: This study aims to analyze factors related to stunting prevention behavior based on the health promotion model theory (HPM). Method: The research design is cross-sectional. The population is mothers who have children aged 6-24 months. The sample taken was 147 people using purposive sampling technique. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the logistic regression test &#945-<0.05. Main finding: A total of 115 people (78.2%) had stunting prevention behavior. Independent factors related to stunting prevention behavior are prior related behavior (p=0.00), perceived benefits to action (p=0.00), perceived self-efficacy (0.01), personal influences (0.01). Meanwhile, those that do not have a relationship are personal factor (0.07), perceived barrier to action (0.07), activity related affect (0.06). Implication: The benefits of the research can be used as material for developing pediatric nursing knowledge related to stunting prevention behavior in children aged 6-24 months, and developing family nursing knowledge related to the role of parents in implementing good parenting patterns for children.
