Effect of Immersing Heat Cured Acrylic Resin Material in Avocado Seed Extract on Transversal Strength 1. Prosthodonsia Departement, Universitas Trisakti, Faculty of Dentistry, DKI Jakarta, Indonesia Abstract Introduction : Heat cured acrylic resin is a material that is often used as a base for removable dentures. Heat cured acrylic resin materials are still often used because they have the advantage of being non-toxic to tissue, having good physical and aesthetic properties, being relatively cheap, being easy to manipulate and manufacture, and being able to be repaired. However, removable dentures made from heat cured acrylic resin also have disadvantages, namely that they break easily and have micro cavities which can become a place for food debris and plaque accumulation to stick, so that if they are not cleaned they will cause denture stomatitis for the user. The use of special chemicals to clean dentures has been recommended, such as a disinfectant solution by immersing the denture, however, repeated use of this disinfectant can cause physical changes in the denture base material, one of which is transverse strength. Research has been carried out on natural ingredients in dentistry, one of which is avocado seed extract, which contains phytochemicals containing antibacterial and anti-fungal substances, so it is hoped that it will be an alternative to chemical denture cleaners that do not change the physical nature of the denture material.
