Abstract

Sustainable tourism development emphasizes the importance of inclusivity for all segments of society, including people with disabilities. Physical limitations should not be a barrier to their enjoyment of the travel experience. Therefore, this purpose to promote tourism development that considers the specific needs of people with disabilities, with a focus on the concept of sustainable tourism village design. Disability-friendly design is a key element in this paradigm, referring to the integration of the needs of people with disabilities in the planning and construction of facilities at tourism destinations. This study specifically focuses on the development of a disability-friendly design concept for the Plaza area in the Kampung Ketupat Tourism Area in Samarinda. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzes the essential design factors to create a Plaza area that can be easily accessed by people with disabilities. The results of this study provide in-depth insights into the design aspects that are needed to improve inclusivity and accessibility, especially for people with disabilities. These findings are expected to provide practical guidance for tourism destination developers and planners to create an environment that is welcoming and can be enjoyed by all visitors, regardless of physical limitations. Thus, this design concept not only creates an inclusive travel experience, but also supports the overall vision of sustainable tourism.
