Transformative Education in Pre-Service Teacher Training: Experiences and Impact

Abstract

Education is continuously transforming while the world is evolving. Hence, a dynamic and innovative approach to learning that goes beyond traditional models, fostering personal growth, critical thinking, and societal change should be adapted. Rooted in the idea that education should not only transmit knowledge but also inspire profound shifts in perspectives and behaviors, this descriptive mixed-method research was conducted to determine the experiences and perceived impact of transformative education in College of Teacher Education of the University of Saint Anthony. The researchers conducted survey and interview for an in-depth discussion of the topic under study. The tabulated data were analyzed and interpreted using Weighted Mean and Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test as statistical tools. It revealed that Transformative education is Very Much Experienced in transformative learning process along social support, self directed learning, attitude toward uncertainty, and criticality and are highly evident from the experiences of the teacher education students through Classroom Dialogues, Internships, and Class Activities which developed and improved students critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills. These experiences have helped the students realize their full potential and delve into the ways they find purpose and insight in their lives. Teachers support plays a vital role in these undertakings.
