Abstract

This paper sheds on the implementation of community engagement in Sukadana village, Ciamis regency, West Java. The background of this society engagement was from the low literacy in Indonesia. This phenomenon of low competence is not only caused by individual internal factors, such as the absence of a progressive literacy program carried out by the village government aimed at policy instruments. In addition, the cultural factor of the community that considers literacy not a necessity is also an internal factor in the village why the people there have less literacy. Seeing the phenomenon, the implementation of community based education in rural area is necessary to have a solution in the community. The development of community-based education is hoped to be a solution to the literacy problems faced. This model of community-based education or community-based education is hoped to be able to answer the challenges of rural communities to improve rural community literacy through the rural literacy movement. The implementation of the activities is expected to improve the quality of life and competitiveness in the future.
