Abstract
In this study, the ferrofluids with Fe3O4/ZnO nanoparticles as fillers dispersed in sunflower seed oil were fabricated. Our XRD analysis results suggested that the Fe3O4 nanoparticles had a crystallite size of 9 nm with diffraction peaks detected at 2-theta of 30.3○-, 35.7○-, 43.4○-, 53.8○-, 57.3○-, and 62.9○-. Meanwhile, the ZnO nanoparticle presented crystallite size of 41 nm with diffraction peaks detected at 2-theta of 31. 8○-, 34.4○-, 36.3○-, 47.5○-, 56.6○-, 62.9○-, and 67.9○-. The functional groups observed through the FTIR confirmed the successful synthesis of Fe3O4/ZnO ferrofluids with the unique functional groups of C=C observed at a wavenumber of 1700 cm-1. Furthermore, the vibration of COO- was also detected at a wavenumber of 1280 cm-1, while C-O was found at a wavenumber of 1000 cm-1. Also, the C-H2 vibration was observed at wavenumbers of 2881 cm-1 and 2990 cm-1. Our findings showed that the Fe3O4/ZnO ferrofluids dispersed in sunflower seed oil carry the potential of an excellent antibacterial agent againt S. aureus and E. coli bacteria.
