Abstract

This research aims to make a nano-sized cobalt ferrite magnetic material doped with a Yttrium element with a molarity concentration of 0.1. The sol-gel automatic combustion method synthesized yttrium-doped cobalt ferrite nanoparticles with the chemical formula CoY0.1Fe1.9O4. The samples obtained were annealed at atmospheric conditions at temperatures of 200 C, 300 C, 400 C, and 500 C for 4 hours. X-Rays Diffraction (XRD) results show that the yttrium-doped cobalt ferrite samples are an inverse spinel with space group Fd-3m. The results of Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy showed the presence of metal-O bonds around wave numbers (k) 436 cm-1 and 573 cm-1, a characteristic of cobalt ferrite compounds. From the Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) measurement results, it can be seen that there is a decrease in magnetic saturation with an increase in annealing temperature, namely 33,162 emu g, 30,190 emu g, 29,493 emu g, and 28,078 emu g. From the calculation of the Scherrer equation, the crystal size of D increased with increasing annealing temperature, namely 12.48 nm, 12.90 nm, 13.00 nm, and 13.23 nm.
