Abstract

Parents^ Perception Of Cough And Cold Self-Medication Of Age Under-Five

Background:
The trend of combating minor ailments at home in children is a common practice in Indonesia. When it comes to very smaller children like those of age under-five. Self-medication is a common practice worldwide and the irrational use of drugs is a cause of concern. The study aims to know parents^ perception Of Cough And Cold Self-Medication.
Method
Scoping review using the PRISMA-ScR checklist
Results
Approximately most of parents demonstrates good knowledge and perception of self-medication practices. Stimulation for self-medication practice largely arise from the perception of treating cough And cold. Findings revealed a positive perception about self-medication and respondents were found to be highly involved in its practice.
Conclusion
Most of the respondents believed self-medication is cheaper, saves time and is as effective as prescription medicine. The study identified factors influencing practice of self-medication as minor illnesses, past experience, avoidance of long waiting hours in queue to see a physician and time constraint.
Recommendation
The need for advocacy on responsible self-medication practice during the formal training of these future health professionals, in order to avert its imminent/widespread negative consequences.
