Quality Improvement of Fungicide Products Packaging Using FMEA and Continuous Improvement

Abstract

In the production process, companies often find product defects. Defects in this product are unavoidable, but can be reduced. Defects can occur in the main product or supporting products such as packaging. Product defects need to be handled by the company so that production activities run well and the company does not bear a lot of losses. In this study, researchers need to reduce defects in the Victory WP 75 Fungicide product by analysing the causes of these defects and providing continuous improvements. The methods used in this research are Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Continuous Improvement. The results showed that the highest defect risk value was torn packaging defects, the RPN (Risk Priority Number) value was 574. Then the results of the analysis using fishbone diagrams found three root causes, including worn horizontal sealer bearings, Ignoring SOPs. The improvements are optimizing the feeling of the heating element (heater), replacing the sealer bearing and confirming the operator^s performance SOP. Then a continuous improvement stage is carried out with PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Actions) so that the packaging defects of the Victory WP 75 Fungicide product are reduced and continue to be improved.
