Rural Thematic Map based on a Strategical Issue Approach

Abstract

The rural setting offers numerous opportunities for development and expansion. Potential mapping is one of many ways to the rural development plan strategy. However, the outcomes of the map^s product are often challenging to comprehend, particularly by the general public. This study regarding the rural thematic map is based on our brief engagement with Baturetno, a rural area in Malang Regency, during a one-year rural research study. The study adopts an action research methodology that requires students to reside on the rural site to form a close partnership with the people. We developed a map of Baturetno^s potential based on the curated issue and community self-implementation by combining digital tools and firsthand observation. The rural issues were assessed using the SWOT framework and developed through informal and formal participation. The issues are then classified as macro, mezzo, and micro to construct the proposed rural thematic map.
