Digital Literacy with HOTS for The EFL Listening and Speaking Class: Improving Indonesian student teachers^ initial perception about integrating digital technologies

Abstract

ABSTRACT
The objectives of this study are to obtain a concrete picture of students ^digital literacy mastery in listening and speaking course and to find out the effect of students^ digital literacy mastery on the quality of high order thinking in listening and speaking course. Efforts to prepare student teachers for technology integration are pressingly needed. Also needed is data that informs us about student teachers^ participation (engagement) with digital technologies and how they might utilize those technologies for literacy teaching with high order thinking skill. In particular, this study will examine theories on digital literacy for EFL teaching and Improving Indonesian student teachers^ initial perception about integrating digital technologies. The approach to be applied in this research is interdisciplinary using qualitative methods. The research design implemented in this study is case study. The technique of collecting data uses participatory observation techniques, interviews, and documentation studies. The data validity technique used triangulation, which mainly consisted of source data triangulation, methodological triangulation, and theory triangulation. Research found that many student teachers are active users of digital technologies yet they are reluctant to make use of digital technologies for literacy teaching purposes. Digital literacy mastery with high order thinking skill for EFL which in the same time is influenced by students^ perception about integrating digital technologies. The role of the lecturer as a facilitator invites students to have the courage to evaluate the quality in learning of integrated digital technology.
