Facebook Groups in Indonesia and Czech: How English language learners gaining knowledge and learning new things

Abstract

The aim of this work was to study the Facebook users gaining knowledge and learning new things in Facebook Groups in Indonesia and Czech Republic. The qualitative research methodology was used to conduct analysis on Facebook Groups postings as data. The non-participant observation was applied to Facebook Groups in English language learning niche, each with a total of 270 posts. The communication, facility and mentoring practice were studies from the Facebook Groups. The study obtained insight into the different topics and materials of learning English language through social media platform. The data analysis revealed that communication among members and between admin and members in the groups assisted the exchange of experiences and knowledge. The facility that the platform provided also supported the consumption of learning material. This study can provide some reference for the mentoring practice in social media in English language learning niche.
