It is not only because of the pattern but also the meaning. Although there are many online sources or webs providing PVs materials, there are few in application format. This paper is a need analysis-based study to figure out the problems faced by EFL learners in learning English PVs and reveal the needs of online platform applications to support them learning English PVs. A questionnaire was distributed to higher education students in Indonesia with 115 participants responded and become the respondents in the study. Qualitative data analysis was used to analyze the data by presenting the percentage of the responses. The result shows that there is a need to develop an online platform of the application to support learners^ understanding of PVs. There are two major considerations in developing the application. First is the application that should provide tools to make the application user-friendly and second is the content of the application that should contain practices in using PVs in sentences and paragraphs and exercises. These finding is required for the development of an application to support the EFL learners in understanding PVs for sentence and paragraph writing.
