The Advantages and the obstacles in implementing the differentiated instruction a) Psychology Department, Binus University Abstract This study aimed to have a clear picture of advantages and obstacles in implementing the teaching approach called as differentiated instruction (DI). As suggested by many authors the implementation of DI can be one of the promising solutions for better academic outcome. This research used the systematic literature review. We collected articles published with keyword of differentiated instruction, and we got 30 related articles from various countries worldwide. After careful analysis using the systematic literature review, we concluded that the advantages in implementing the DI are teachers can more easily organize classes, provide supervision and feedback to students. DI also known as fun and flexible, and has positive impact to the student motivation and student learning outcome. In other hand, the implementation of DI also has the obstacles, those are still many teachers who do not understand how to implement the DI, they also have the lack of support from the government and schools, and the lack of facilities in implementing the DI. It is also related to the long periods of time to design the learning plan to implement the DI. This study recommended to provide sufficient teacher professional development in order help teacher in improving their knowledge and skill in implementing the DI.
